As part of its commitment to attracting global expertise and fostering scientific dialogue on pressing environmental issues, Sharjah Marine Science Research Center (SMSRC), affiliated with University of Khorfakkan, organized a scientific seminar entitled “Hypoxia and Marine Life” The seminar was delivered by Professor John Spicer, a specialist in marine biology at University of Plymouth in the United Kingdom, and was attended by a number of academics, researchers, and university students interested in marine and environmental sciences. The seminar addressed the growing environmental challenges facing marine ecosystems, particularly the phenomenon of environmental oxygen depletion and its profound impacts on marine organisms. It also highlighted advanced scientific research findings that demonstrate how marine life responds to these changes from molecular and genetic levels, through physiological and functional processes, to large-scale effects on marine communities and ecosystems. The seminar concluded with a discussion of proposed scientific and research-based solutions to mitigate the effects of Hypoxia, strategies for monitoring and early prediction of such phenomena, and the role of applied research in supporting marine biodiversity conservation efforts and enhancing the sustainability of marine resources.
