THROUGH THE INSTALLATION OF A GNSS SENSOR, SMSRC OPENS NEW RESEARCH HORIZONS

Wed Dec 03 2025

Sharjah Marine Science Research Centre (SMSRC) has witnessed the installation of an advanced Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) sensor, in collaboration with international experts and specialists from Hokkaido University in Japan and Zayed University in Abu Dhabi. This qualitative step aims to enhance scientific research in the study of marine ecosystems, monitoring land movement, and observing climate phenomena with high precision, thereby supporting the implementation of rigorous scientific studies and the development of innovative solutions to address environmental challenges in the region. The installation was accompanied by a discussion session delivered by the visiting scientific delegation and a number of faculty members and researchers at the Centre. The session addressed the latest applications of GNSS sensors in data collection and environmental change monitoring, and their role in supporting research projects carried out by the Centre in cooperation with the College of Marine Science and Aquatic Biology at University of Khorfakkan to protect marine ecosystems and achieve environmental sustainability. The discussion also covered unusual climate phenomena such as tropical cyclones in the region, and reviewed the best monitoring methods using artificial intelligence and modern technologies. This project reflects the commitment of University of Khorfakkan and Sharjah Marine Science Research Centre to advancing scientific knowledge and research excellence in the region, confirming their role in keeping pace with the latest scientific developments and research technologies, and in strengthening advanced marine and environmental studies locally, regionally, and internationally.
